Core Aerating & Dethatching

The best time to dethatch a lawn is in the early fall. Thatch can keep water and nutrients from entering the sod or ground soil properly. Depending on what type of Massachusetts cold season lawn you have, some grasses may naturally have more thatch than others. You should probably dethatch your lawn every two years or so. The best time would be right before it really starts growing for the season.

A vertical mower is great for dethatching. They easily cut the thatch and bring it to the surface.
